Proposal 2024
Culture Night Proposal:
This proposal is for a Short film inclusion in Shannon Culture Night.
Film Duration will be between 10:00 to 15:00 minutes.
This will be a film that tells a story about life in the early days of Shannon New Town, told through the voices
of the generation that arrived in Shannon throughout the 1960s and perhaps the early 1970s.
Film work is in PROGRESS
Background
Shannon was Ireland’s first new town, with the first homes built throughout the 1960s, 70s and onward.
The new community of Shannon was made of people from various towns throughout Ireland, returning diaspora from the UK and even the USA, who all got jobs in the brand new factories, schools & airport.
Whatever the reasons that families came to Shannon, overall there was a sense of excitiment, of promise and opportunity. A brand new town, brand new houses, and brand new lives.
This film will tell these stories.

MOCK-UP
Photo above indicates idea of film, projected onto a gable wall, played on a loop.
The proposed time is from around 7:30pm to 10pm, due to evening light and the nature
of projection.
If the film is screened on a TV monitor, it may be played on a loop from an earlier time.
SEE BELOW: Supplemental artworks in imagined position, suspended by posts, hung from a tree, different solutions.
These pieces can be installed earlier, before dusk, available for audiences to view in advance of film projection.
